Consumer confidence index dropped by 4.6 percent to 73.58 percent in Dec., against Nov. when it was at 77.15 percent level, according to a survey conducted by Turkstat and Turkey’s Central Bank.
The consumer confidence index, which is calculated from the survey results, is evaluated within the range of 0-200. It indicates an optimistic outlook when the index is above 100 and a pessimistic outlook when it is below 100.
In monthly consumer tendency survey, consumers’ assessments on current situation and their expectations for personal financial standing and general economic situation have been evaluated, also their expenditure and saving tendencies for near future have been measured.
Financial situation expectation falls by 2.6 percent
The financial situation expectation of household index fell by 2.6 percent compared to the previous month. Also, the index which was at 95.66 in Nov., became 93.19, in Dec.
This fall stemmed from the drop in ratio of people expecting better financial situation of household in the next 12 months period, said the survey report.
General economic situation expectation drops by 5.6 percent
Meanwhile, the general economic situation expectation index, which was at 105.90 in Nov. declined by 5.6 percent to 99.91, in Dec. This decrease shows that the number of consumers who expect a better general economic situation in the next 12 months decreased compared to the previous month, said the report.
Number of people unemployed expectation declines by 7.4 percent
The number of people unemployed expectation index dropped by 7.4 percent against the previous month to 78.41, in Dec. This decrease resulted from the fall in the ratio of people expecting a decrease in the number of unemployed persons in the next 12 months.
Probability of saving increases by 1.9 percent
The probability of saving index rose by 1.9 percent from 22.37 in Nov. to 22.79 in Dec. This increase indicates that the possibility of saving of consumers in the next 12 months period increased compared to the previous month.
